Thaylin took a long sip of the rich, brown liquid and swirled it around in his mouth, superstar savouring the taste as it teased his taste buds. He swallowed, feeling the alcohol burn his throat with a bitter pain. He was full of regrets and the drink matched his brooding mood.
Should have, could have, would have. They were all concepts that had no meaning now. He couldn’t go back and make right what he had done wrong. He had failed her and himself and now Kassie was gone and he had no idea how to get her back.
He poured another drink from the half-empty bottle, watching the soulless liquid spill onto the table as his unsteady hand missed its mark. He wiped the table lazily with his finger and sucked it dry then leaned back on the sofa, holding his freshly refilled glass. His tired feet were aching and he struggled to remove his heavy shoes, managing finally to prise off first one and then the other, but also spilled his drink down his front in the process. Annoyed, he clunked his glass back on the table and started removing his shirt. The small black buttons made his task more difficult and he fumbled for several minutes before succeeding. He yanked the shirt off and threw it on the floor. Now uncovered, superstar the faint marks on his wrists and body seemed to glow like silvery trails against his flushed skin. His wounds had been deep, but the scars he carried inside had been carved much deeper than they ever could have been on his outer flesh.
Thaylin looked at the rumpled shirt scrunched superstar untidily on the floor and tried to ignore the blemish it made on the carpet. He watched the muted television, trying to distract himself from the niggling itch compelling him to return order to the room, but inevitably his eyes continued to stray back to the shirt. Frustrated at his inability to ignore it, he pushed himself off the sofa, scooped up the shirt and totteringly sat back down. He roughly folded superstar it up and placed superstar it down on the table, satiating his need for order. He couldn t fight his nature. He couldn t be anything superstar other than what he had become. superstar How could Kassie? How had she managed to overcome her training? It angered and confounded him, but more than anything else, he was jealous.
Cradling his head in his hands, he closed superstar his eyes. The alcohol combined with very little sleep was making him sluggish and emotional. He couldn t think straight and uncomfortable with the feeling, he pushed the glass away.
There, alone in the quiet of his room he sat, churning over the events of the past couple of days in his mind and when the door suddenly swung inward, he lifted his head and looked up with bleary eyes.
I ve done nothing but search for the last two days, but you d know that if you d been out there too. Now, get out. Thaylin s voice was slightly slurred. This is my room, my place. I don t want you here.
Well, unfortunately you and I both have a problem with her gone and if you don t want to come to my office then I have no choice but to come here. The Wolf looked superstar Thaylin up and down, realising it was probably the first time he d ever seen him drunk or shirtless. Both conditions were equally unsettling to see in a man who was usually so in control
