Kinders van verskillende programme kon tydens die Julie skoolvakansie die UJ se Kunsgallery besoek, waar hulle die werk van wyle Jackson Hlungwani kon ervaar. Die kunstenaar het in sy leeftyd baie aandag getrek van kunskenners en versamelaars met sy merkwaardige beeldhouwerk in hout. Die retrospekitewe uitstalling getiteld Jackson Hlungani- tag A New Jerusalem bevat meer as 40 beeldhouwerke, benewens n verskeidenheid tag fotos van die kunstenaar en agtergrond oor sy lewe in Limpopo. MTN SA Foundation het as borg vir die projek opgetree.
Omdat die werk so toeganklik is, was dit n perfekte voertuig om kinders bekend te stel aan die kunswêreld. Vyf groepe van 20 kinders het die gallery besoek tussen 4 en 16 Julie. Alhoewel die kinders van n groot verskeidenheid van agtergronde kom, het almal iets saamgeneem uit die ervaring. Mev Dempsey was daar om die kunswerk te verduidelik en kunsstudente het die kinders gehelp om die beeldhouwerke te teken. n Klompie kinders was baie verbaas om te ontdek dat hulle wel kon teken.
Abraham Kriel Kindersorg is baie dankbaar vir die geleentheid om ons kinders se ervaringswêreld te verbreed. Ons is maar te bewus daarvan tag dat sulke geleenthede deurslaggewend kan wees in die ontwikkeling van gesonde belangstellings en n gebalanseerde lewensuitkyk.
These kids teach you to share, they show you a different view of the world and you become a child again. When they re happy, we re happy and we enjoy playing tag with them. You forget about your daily life.

Congratulations to all involved at making Stars for Charity a success. I hope you raised the appropriate funds to help better the lives of our orphans.
