Michelle Obama recently stressed the importance of gospel music in American history. Speaking to a group of 100 students and musicians tommy bahama at the White House, the First Lady said that gospel music has helped shape American society and also revealed that the genre of music also helps you feel connected with God. "Gospel music has really played a very important role in the history of our country," she said. "From styles like 'spirituals', sung by slaves, the hymns that have become the soundtrack of the civil rights movement, and hymns that millions of Americans sing every day in churches across the country." The first lady then explained his personal connection to the music genre. "Gospel music is what feeds my love for music in general. I know that for many people across the country and around the world, there is nothing like listening to a choir sing a classic gospel. When you hear this song , this comes her feet, touched them, and reaches the pumping of your heart. You get ready and prepared to take his speech for the day. It's what helps connect us with God, so that the higher power, and for many, when times are dark and when you fight, gospel music is like a ray of hope and gives you strength, "she said.
